Torsten Fenslau was one of the most influential producers of the early German dance scene. He has created his music under several projects in genres such as Eurodance, Trance, Techno, New Beat and others.
He gained fame for his innovative productions combining elements of techno, trance and eurodance, influencing the sound of Frankfurt in the early 1990s. His commercial breakthrough came in 1993 with Culture Beat's 'Mr. Vain' which topped all European charts that year.
Other tracks stayed pretty much underground, but became legendary clubhits nevertheless (e.g. 'Die Kybernauten' by Klangwerk or 'Alone It's Me' by Abfahrt). Torsten ran his own label Abfahrt Records and was resident DJ at Dorian Gray in the terminal-basement of Frankfurt airport. He died much too early in a car accident on 6 November 1993. His music lives on in the many sets people have on tape from his appearances in the 'hr3 Clubnight' radio show.

Had a younger brother, Frank Fenslau. Frank would later pursue a career in the music industry, contributing to projects that continued aspects of Torsten's work.
From a young age, Torsten Fenslau exhibited a profound passion for music, describing himself as "burning for the music" amid Germany's burgeoning disco and electronic scenes in the late 1970s. This enthusiasm was particularly shaped by the innovative sounds of electronic pioneers like Kraftwerk, whose work in the 1970s captivated him and influenced his early musical explorations.
Fenslau's initial forays into music were self-taught and informal, centered on immersing himself in records and experimenting with keyboards to replicate electronic sounds. He frequently attended local events during this period, gaining exposure to the vibrant club culture around Frankfurt, where venues like the newly opened Dorian Gray—launched in 1978 as a disco hub—began transitioning toward electronic influences that resonated with his interests.
By 1982, at the age of 18, Fenslau took his first steps into DJing, initially at informal spots such as Lopo’s Werkstatt in nearby Darmstadt, which served as an entry point into the regional scene before more formal opportunities arose. This marked the transition from personal hobby to active participation in the music world, driven by his deep-seated affinity for the evolving electronic sounds of the era.
From a trance music fan's perspective, his project LDC is worth checking out. His compatriots Peter Zweier and Alexander Abraham also participated in this band. He was responsible for the band's first album, "Plasma," as producer and arranger. It was released on CD and double vinyl on Dance Poll in 1992. It's an incredible collection of tracks ranging from trance and techno to acid and ambient. This album is worth having in your collection. It's an incredible journey through 70 minutes of magical sounds. Every electronic music connoisseur will find something to enjoy.
