INGE LEMON - HUMANOID INTELLIGENCE (ALBUM INTERVIEW - Visions Of Trance)

      INGE LEMON - HUMANOID INTELLIGENCE

(ALBUM INTERVIEW - Visions Of Trance)

1. Hi, you just released your debut album, "Humanoid Intelligence." Where did the idea for the title come from?

It’s in the title — it’s made with humanoid intelligence: me and AI.

We’re in a moment of change. Music is no longer shaped only by human intelligence, and I see that as evolution, not a problem. Many artists are already using AI quietly — I just chose to do it openly.

For me, it’s a tool to push ideas and emotion, just like artists have always used new technology. At the same time, I don’t believe organic, human-made music will ever disappear. That will always have its place. This is simply another layer — not a replacement.

2. What inspired you to write your debut studio album?

Curiosity, more than anything.

I had already been working on an album for over a year when I started experimenting with AI — and that’s when things became interesting. I used it to explore possibilities, not to replace creativity, but to stretch it.

What began as an experiment turned into something that felt alive — something worth releasing.

AI isn’t fully there yet. In many cases, the sound is still too thin for professional use, but it can be shaped and developed. Things are moving fast, and I don’t think it will take long before it catches up.

I wanted to capture this exact moment — almost like a monument to where we are right now.

3. What was the path to this album?

It wasn’t linear.

I started in a traditional way, but gradually let AI become part of the workflow. I made all the final decisions — what stayed, what went, what mattered.

The speed of ideas kept me in a creative flow, and I ended up with sounds I wouldn’t have reached otherwise. That’s the point — exploring new territory.

4. You’ve previously shaped the trance scene through your work with Einar K. Do you see this album as an important step in your career?

Absolutely.

My work with Einar K helped define my foundation, but this album represents evolution — both in sound and in mindset. It’s a key step forward for me as an artist.

It’s been many years since we last released music together, but we still speak daily, and there’s a strong chance we’ll collaborate again soon.

And honestly, I was a bit surprised when you reached out — but I guess that shows there’s still interest, which is great.

5. Will you continue in this direction, or can fans expect surprises?

It feels like starting fresh — and that’s exciting.

I’m not interested in repeating the past. Electronic music has always been driven by risk and innovation. If something makes people uncomfortable, it usually means something is changing — and that’s where things get interesting.

I’ve been around since the early days of techno — organizing events and DJing before trance even existed as a genre. Back then, when music started being made with samplers and synths, people said it wasn’t real music either.

This album wasn’t made for DJs — it was made for listeners. That said, DJ-friendly versions are on the way.

If I perform, I’d rather present it as a live audiovisual experience — something that tells a story, not just a sequence of tracks.

6. Can we expect more productions in the future? Will they be solo or collaborative?

More music is definitely coming — likely another album within a year.

Some of it will involve AI, some will be completely organic. But I want to let this album breathe first — develop visuals, remixes, and see where it goes.

As they used to say: if it floats, it lives.

I’m also working on a collaboration with a DJ from Thailand, and revisiting older ideas — including a project called Aven, which previously released on Ferry Corsten’s label.

At this stage, I only do things that feel right — and that are fun.

7. Did you feel any pressure releasing this album?

None.

I release music when it feels right and when I stand behind it. This project has been genuinely enjoyable — especially creating the visuals alongside it.

8. Do you have a favorite track on the album?

“Don’t Blame the Game” stands out — it captures the core message and keeps evolving.

“Fractured Reality” reflects the world we’re living in, and “Ashwan” represents my roots in trance. I’m currently working on a video for that one.

9. What’s your goal with this album?

To make people feel something — and maybe rethink what music can be.

I’m not chasing fame. This is about expression and connection.

I haven’t followed the traditional route of sending promos to DJs. Some tracks aren’t even designed to be mixed easily — that’s intentional. I am working on more DJ-friendly remixes, though.

You probably won’t hear this on major radio shows. I’ve shared it with a few well-known DJs who are old friends, but I haven’t heard back yet — they’re busy.

There’s a lot of fear around change, and I understand that. But fear isn’t the answer. Skill still matters, but emotion remains human.

The real question is how you choose to use these tools — because if you don’t, someone else will.

If people connect with the music and share it, that’s enough for me.

10. What did you enjoy most about the process?

The unpredictability.

Even though I guided the process, it still surprised me. The speed kept me instinctive, and that balance between control and surprise was incredibly rewarding.

It also made me rethink both my identity as a DJ and what I want from music going forward.

11. What’s next after the album release?

I’ll continue exploring this path — no rush.

I’ll keep making music I enjoy and believe in, and let things evolve naturally.

And on a personal note — I’m getting a boat this summer. A lot of the album was inspired by time spent on the Oslofjord last year.
