"What Time Is Love?" by The KLF is a legendary track that is considered one of the first productions in Trance music. Of course, there's an Acid House influence here. The electronic music community has variously labeled it as a genre. Acid Trance? Acid House? It doesn't really matter. The music has held its own in every respect. It's certainly in the hearts of fans and the home speakers of many of us. The song's main melody is taken from the overture to the soundtrack of the film "Jesus Christ Superstar." The track was released on vinyl in 1988 by KLF Communications.
It features two versions of this classic. The cover and labels don't officially name the mixes, although the master cassette insert lists them as "Original" and "Sub Bass Acid" respectively. Later releases, including the A-side mix, were typically referred to as "1988 Pure Trance Original" (or simply "Original"). Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty created an absolute masterpiece in the history of electronic music.
The track has not only stood the test of time over the years but also inspired numerous producers. Some background information on the song:

In its original form, the song was an instrumental dance anthem. Later remakes, with vocals and additional instruments, yielded the international hits "What Time Is Love? (Live at Trancentral)" (1990) and "America: What Time Is Love?" (1991), which reached number five and four on the UK Singles Chart, respectively, introducing the duo to an international audience.
They can certainly be considered controversial producers, but for the listener, the music always wins. 👇
