I'm still discovering trance music. It's easier with albums by well-known artists than with those of producers whose music has quickly become known to the world. The album "Frontier" by Australian Mystic Force was released in 1995 on CD (plus bonus CD) and double vinyl on the MFS label. A year earlier on a single CD on the Psy-Harmonics label.
It's pretty solid trance, with a few ambient elements. The first three tracks give us a really great start. "Key" is a slightly instrumental, synthpop-inspired track, followed by "Spacial," which picks up the pace, a repetitive loop of melody with ambient flowing around it. It looks really cool. "Pacific Sunrise" is a pleasant track. A long trance track that flows like a river. A nice, long ambient intro, followed by a nice, droning melody sequence about two minutes in, which then plays out nicely with the surrounding soundscape. The second half includes a few breaks and builds to an ecstatic climax with a different, more expressive version of the droning melody. Very well done, in my opinion. "Memory In Paradise" is an ambient track, clocking in at less than three minutes, so it's hard to transport yourself to another dimension. "Labyrinth" is truly interesting and deserves a longer version. The shifting bass combined with the pleasant ambient and slow rhythm make this track truly dreamy.
"Operating Through Time" is energetic, to say the least, with a fast tempo and swirling melodic lines in a very atmospheric setting. One of the best tracks on the album. "Frontier" is a slow track with irritating, high-pitched synth sounds repeated endlessly. Some might find this annoying. "A Step In The Dark" sounds like the beginning of the song. To me, it's an ambient gem with an interesting melody. It could definitely serve as an excellent intro to a DJ mix. "Flight To Eternity" is a forgotten but quite cool track. A pleasant and catchy melody. "Moment of Truth" is meant to carry you away with its melody, but it's too short to elevate into musical bliss. "Enigma" is another quite good, fast-paced track, with very dreamy synths throughout. It's very atmospheric and dreamy. It really creates a good atmosphere.
"Second Wave" connects with the previous track, creating quite an interesting journey. It could definitely be used in a video game. "Sunset at Dawn" is a great track that caught my ear after the first listen. Finally, there's "Final Journey," which concludes the first CD. It's atmospheric, in the comfort of home. Very relaxing and unwinding with each passing minute. The CD also comes with a bonus CD containing six additional tracks. They're worth checking out. Another dose of heavenly melodies, but in the form of a mix. In summary, it's a rather interesting album. You won't find any songs on it that could be considered anthems, but it's a truly enjoyable journey through trance and ambient music. It's for this reason that this album has been forgotten by many.
