"Inwardgaze" kicks off with a mellow, trance-like atmosphere with "Life" that really invites you as a listener to the album. Miika demonstrates her desire to combine styles and sounds at the very beginning, because finally the trance atmosphere is complemented by a dense and pulsating bass, almost house-like in sound and feeling. You'll be forgiven for missing the smooth transition between songs as we hit more atmosphere. This allows for concise and subtle transitions. It works really well here. I wasn't expecting to hear vocals at this point, but that's exactly what's coming next. The sounds on "Smoky Room" demonstrate one of the overall and shining characteristics of this album - crisp, clear and really well-defined sounds. For example, the vocals are crystal clear, supported by a calm but clearly upbeat rhythm.
Adding really deep and punchy bass every now and then. The sequel to the album takes us through the downtempo and house kingdom of "Autumn Falls", and then into the cool breakbeats of "Garden Of Hope". Without straying too far from the beaten track, things melt back into the more energetic feeling of progressive trance in "Miami Nice" where you can let the bassline keep you moving while enjoying the simple trance melodies that they hover gently and sweetly over most of the song. Tracks 6, 7 and 8 are another separate part of the album. They follow a similar path as before, where "The Orion Theme" is a track without a beat, based on themes and melodies.
"Destination" is a bit more breakbeat, but this time with more power, and then we go back to something more trance-like with "Panic Mode". Of course, to live up to its name, it's a much darker trance, with sinister melodies and haunting chord progressions. The last part of the album brings you back to much more upbeat songs. "Sonic Kiss", "Pandemia" and "Twisted" came home with even more traditional feelings and trance tastes, making it a great highlight for the album. But it doesn't stop there. "Sirius" is a long and beautiful piece with specific pads and delicate melodies. A peaceful end to an excellent album that spans many bases. Miika was proud here. We heard great ambient, breakbeat, house and trance blended and blended to take you on an immersive musical journey of ups and downs. The joy of listening!
