TOP LABELS: A Trance Communication Release (ATCR)
The Trance Communication label was originally set up in the middle of 1998 to release tracks from a small group of musicians living and working in and around the Oxford area.
It focuses on all aspects of Trance/Trance progressive music through the beauty of Insigma and Free Radical to the tough, harder edged nature of the Geoff Lawz Project and Rapid Eye.
The Trance Communications debut [HEIGHTS] by Rapid Eye Steve 'THRILLSEEKERS' Helstrip & label boss Tim Stark was released in May at the start of the European trance boom. It wasn't until the folow up [ALDERAAN] in August that the press, radio and big name DJ support started to gather from the likes of Ferry Corsten, Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk. The Thrillseekers provided the remix for the third release, Free Radical's [UNITY THEME] (Steve's younger brother Richard) which was signed to Gatecrasher's 'Discotech' compilation alongside many other worldwide comps.
The Olmec Heads remixes of [ALDERAAN] were released at the end of October. Following the success of [ALDERAAN], Rapid Eye went on to remix tracks for Timo Maas and Gee Motion for Perfecto/48K, Seb Fontaine's Cequenza Project and Blank & Jone's 'Nightfly'.
With an image change Trance Communications re-launched in early January with the huge debut from Pulser. The alter ego of Andy 'Olmec Heads' Perring. The track is again featured on Gatecrasher-Discotech CD and licensed to Slinky Tech-Nique. 'Cloudwalking' to this day remains the labels most requested track and will be re-released with mixes from Goldenscan and others in 2001.
February brought the debut from Insigma. A collaboration between The Thrillseekers and Pulser, the tracks enjoyed enormous support from Pete Tong, Ferry Corsten and Seb Fontaine along with many others.
May 2000 saw Free Radical follow up his debut with 'Surreal'. In his En-Motion guise, brother Steve again did the remix honours to devestating effect. Such was the impact of the mix, that it was signed to Ferry Corsten, DJ Tiesto and Armin Van Buurens recent European compilation releases. 'Surreal' will be back around in vocal form with lyrics already penned by Ricky 'Space Brothers' Symmonds.
Sampling one of the gentler moments from a well known gangster movie, Rpaid Eye's follow up appeared in June. 'Never Going Back' mad a big impact with Jocks such as Jon 00 Flemming and Rob Tissera. The summer brought the mighty 'Sunrise' by Goldenscan. ATCR picked it up from a Sheffield based outfit after heavy radio play from Judge Jules. The labels most successful release, it was signed in August to Virgin's VC; division and has been featured on a huge range of UK comps including Cream 2001 Ibizza Uncovered II, Paul Oakenfold Travelling, Creamfields 2000 & Judge Jules Clubbers Guide to Ibizza and Tiesto's Revolution CD. The unreleased Pulser remix still brings in e-mails from around the world to this day.
Next out of the gate was Insigma's follow up to their self titled debut. 'Open Our Eyes', a tear inducing summer trancer was absolutely championed by Tiesto and Oakenfold and has now followed Goldenscan and been signed to VC; Geoff Lawz Project, signed from 33/45 records in Belgium (home of The Act's huge 'Something About U') came around introducing a tougher edge back into ATCR's repetoire. Using the famous 'I Have A Dream' speech it was snapped up by Scott Bond for his latest Gatecrasher CD.
Up n' coming we have the debut release from God's Kitchen resident AJ Gibson. The Kitchen is still one of the trance mecca's in the UK and AJ has continued to champion the sound. His huge 'I Always Loved U' has been rocking the rafters in the black country for the last six months. Following that we are proud to welcome a Trance legend to the label. And we can't even tell you his name! Under the moniker SL, this gentleman has delivered to the ATCR door an unusual ground breaking track of monterous proportions well outside of hi usual domain. Answers on a postcard......
DJ Garry's 'Dream Universe' saw a limited domestic release on ATCR after another link up with 33/45 records. The man who remixed The Act to such effect brought a huge soaring slant to the C.M. classic. Tried and Tested by Judge Jules 3 days after he received it, it was quickly signed to Xtravaganza for a full release in January 2002.
Goldenscan returned to the label under their new Serie A pseudonym with the double header ‘Spiritrider'/’Get It Together’. Hammered by Dave Pearce on Dance Anthems, ‘Spiritrider’ originally started life as a remix of Positiva’s Hypetraxx signing!
ATCR followed that by linking up with Holland’s Liquid Recordings. Under his Gizeh moniker, Rob delivered the monster ‘Wonderful’. Famous for his remix of 4 Strings ‘Daytime’ among many others, the track further bolstered ATCR’s reputation for pan genre trance music.
The mysterious troika of M. Dippner, M. Graupner and A. Schaller were next to the ATCR fold. DRP’s ‘Invasion’ heralded our first release post the 2001 trance backlash. It was great to see that having survived the kicking our genre took that we could come back and see it fight another day.
However nothing could have prepared us for the reception to the 19th release by Rapid Eye! ‘Circa-Forever’ astonished all of us in terms of critical and commercial success.
Originally recorded at Steve Helstrip’s new York based studio in November 2001, the slow burn build up to its release in July was a major contributing factor. From Tiesto’s initial reaction in February through to a hammering from Ferry, AVB & PVD et all in early late spring the record has proved our most commercially successful to date.
Following the reclaiming of the rights to Insigma rapidly emerging classic ‘Open Our Eyes’, we took the in demand original and made it available to all of you who had contacted us for copies. Twinned with the Chiller Twist remix, it was re-released through ATCR in September 20002.
