Massimo Marino and Mike De Luca provide the goods on our next Bonzai Records release with the superb 'Old Friends'.

Hailing from Belgium and influenced by music from the likes of Depeche Mode and Jean Michel Jarre, Massimo Marino rose to prominence in the mid to late 90's after being introduced to DJ Kalpa who was working with Mackenzie. After further introductions along with his brother, the late great StΓ©phane Marino (RIP), he began to release his own material on labels including Global Beat Records, Mackenzie Mondo Music, Low Spirit, Aurora Records, Mackenzie Records, Heavens Beats Rec and our very own Tripomatic Records. He has worked with a host of top names including Crisci Mauro, Nando Fortunato, Brandy, Hands Burn, Annie Hedison, Fred Dourlens, Jose Delao, DJ Furax and many more. As the Marino Brothers, Massimo and StΓ©phane released a trio of trance bangers between 1998 and 1999 that had a lasting impact on the scene. On the DJing front, Massimo has played out at some of the best clubs in Belgium, La Bush, Zillion, Balao and Zoo to name just a few, with energetic sets that wowed the crowds. Great to have him back at Bonzai.

Fellow countryman Mike De Luca makes his Bonzai debut on this one. Known for spinning tight and groovy sets, Mike has been DJing for more than 14 years and is influenced by progressive trance, techno and dark techno. A long-time friend of Massimo – hence the title of this release, they decided to get into the studio and combine forces to see where it would go, and the results are fantastic. Great to see him on the label and we hope to hear more from both soon. The Original Mix opens the release and takes us right back to the glory days of trance with a solid kick drum leading the way. Crispy hi hats, sharp claps and rhythmic patterns lay the foundation for mesmerizing chords and gated vox that transport us back in time. Atmospheric FX and Dominator-esque hoovers create nuanced textures as an offset bass pulses relentlessly, providing energy and drive before the main hook takes control of the groove. A powerful retro-themed cut that will not disappoint. The Extended Mix delivers that same classic punch as the original, with an extra few minutes added for maximum DJ support. Get this one in your sets and keep the crowd happy. A must have, no doubt.
