Behind the moniker Simon Templar is the young and incredibly talented Finnish DJ and producer Jussi Paasonen. For seven years, he released his productions on prestigious labels such as Black Hole Recordings, JOOF, Lost Language, Touchstone, and Progrez. After this period, it was time for his debut album on the prestigious Pure Trance Recordings! Beginning with the title track, the first half of the album brings music from deeper within the genre's firmament. From the massive drums and vaguely dystopian atmosphere of "Fly With Me" to the cruising, progressive stylings of "Golden Ratios," it mentally evokes much darker imagery. The guitar-driven intro of "Bead Town" gives way to his overflowing, peculiarly effective, Left Bank-esque evangelizing vocals. In an unusually chilled style, "Sunday Rain" brings "Balance" to its midpoint—a beatless break that perfectly sets the mood and builds the tension for the second half. As the sounds of "Sunday Rain" fade, "Balance" picks up speed with the soaring, powerful "Skyline." The "strong," "floor-slamming," and "primetime" (DJ Mag) slant of latest single "Morning Sun" adds weight, while the percussive punch and recursive, progressive riffs of "The Eternia" propel it even further. After "To The Stars" doubled down (after its 2014 release), Simon returns with a third, electrifying track. "The Fog" pushes "Balance" into turbulent Psy territory, while "Jing & Jang" offers a thrilling, quixotic, slow-motion finish to the album.
