Kevin Cornine (Ten Questions with...) Exclusive interview

Kevin Cornine is an emerging Trance producer from the United States. He combines energetic rhythms and melodic sounds to create immersive soundscapes. During the day, he is a dedicated firefighter and paramedic. He has released his music on such record labels as Progressive Vibes, Endless Sky Audio, Kazal Records and Ricebowl Recordings. Kevin shares some interesting information about his history with Trance music. I invite you to an exclusive interview conducted for Visions Of Trance.

1. What is trance music to you?

Trance music to me carries the same weight as asking what my kids mean to me. It has been there for me during the darkest moments of my life. It’s a part of me, and the feelings it evokes are unmatched by anything else. As a producer, it’s now my life, and it’s here to stay. Sharing trance music with my four kids makes it a cornerstone of my life.

2. How do you perceive the state of the current trance music scene?

The trance scene has undoubtedly changed, especially in the US. It used to be lumped under “techno,” and only a small group of people listened to it. I remember in high school, just five or six of us were passionate about it. Today, we’re in a sort of electronic music renaissance here, with genres evolving and finding new audiences. Even drum and bass is growing in popularity. While the scene is expanding, the old-school euphoric trance sound we grew up with is here to stay.

3. What are your goals in producing trance music?

My goals for 2025 are:

• To have 8 tracks signed by the end of the year.

• To get one track signed to an artist label like Highvoltage, Chasing Dreams, Regenerate, or Reason 2 Rise.

• To secure 5 DJ gigs throughout 2025.

4. Who was your inspiration to start producing trance music?

Sean Tyas, especially his track Relentless, which is my all-time favorite. Darren Porter and Metta & Glyde are also big inspirations. Their melodies and sound design truly capture the essence of trance—driving basslines and high-energy melodies. I aim to carry those elements into every track I create, helping me find my sound.

5. Which song are you most proud of and why?

My track Contact is the one I’m most proud of. It’s not out yet, but it won the Dreamstate SoCal Discovery Project with guest judge Giuseppe Ottaviani. Performing it live and seeing people’s reactions was eye-opening and a full-circle moment for me in trance. It also allowed me to connect with amazing people and build a dedicated fan base.

6. Will your future releases be collaborations with other artists? Or are you more into solo productions?

I love collaborating—it’s a chance to work with talented people and build lifelong friendships. For example, Alex Speckmann and I released Estela, which reached #5 on Beatport, and Quantum Solar and I have Voyager awaiting a label. Currently, I’m working on six collaborations, and I’d love to work with artists like Daniele Filaretti next year. Collaboration helps me grow as an artist, and each track is better than the last.

7. What inspires you to create trance music?

The world around me inspires me—whether it’s watching my kids play or experimenting with my synthesizers. I don’t rely on music theory; inspiration strikes, and I ride the wave to create my next project.

8. What hardware and software do you use to create trance music?

I started with FL Studio but switched to Ableton after college when my MIDI keyboard wasn’t compatible. Now, I use Ableton with Spire, Sylenth, and Phoscyon 2. My hardware includes a JP-8080, BassStation II, RD-9, System-1, and, most recently, a Korg Wavestate MKII gifted by my wife—she’s amazing!

9. How do you perceive the influence of social media on the career development of a trance artist?

Social media has transformed not only trance but the world. DJs now need to build a brand to gain a following. While it empowers producers to market themselves, it can be challenging, especially for introverts. For me, it’s an opportunity to connect with fans, share my journey, and support others in achieving their goals.

10. Finally, what would you like to say to your fans?

First and foremost, thank you. As an artist, I’m nothing without you. I love connecting with you on social media, learning about your cultures, and building friendships. The trance community has given me so much, and I hope to give back while making new friends along the way. I love you all.
